Smart Cities New York and Politico Team Up for Second Annual Global Conference Showcasing Cities Powered by People

NEW YORK, Jan. 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On May 8-10, 2018 at Pier 36 on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Smart Cities New York will partner with the most robust news operation and information service in the world, POLITICO, to host its second global conference that explores the importance of democratizing and humanizing technologies of the future to improve the quality of life for all citizens. Guided by the idea that smart cities are truly “Powered by People,” the conference brings together thought leaders from private and public sectors, academia, and NGOs to explore the political, economic, social, and technological dimensions of urban life in the 21st century.

Through their density, diversity, creativity, and economic clout, cities are increasingly asserting themselves: testing and deploying new technologies, building ‘futureproof’ infrastructure, creating innovative business models and policy frameworks, and driving social and political progress. In an age characterized by mass urbanization, Smart Cities New York serves as North America’s premier forum for discussions about these transformations in an industry expected to grow to $1.6 trillion in the next three years.

“Cities with engaged citizens are the world’s best hope. United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11, which targets making cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable, puts cities right at the heart of global efforts,” states Jerry Hultin, Chairman and CEO of Smart Cities New York. “We’re proud to host this event in the world’s most diverse and innovative city. And by partnering with POLITICO, we can enhance our programming and extend the conversation to audiences around the world.”

/EIN News/ -- "Never has it been more essential to understand what drives the decisions being made in local power centers—and their consequences,” said Carrie Budoff Brown, Editor of POLITICO. "With news hubs in Washington, Brussels, London, and cities across America, POLITICO is a natural partner for Smart Cities New York, and we’re proud to elevate the discussion and explore how cities around the globe are preparing to meet the challenges of the future.”

This year’s conference will examine the Emerging Power of Cities, broadening the narrative about what makes cities smart by highlighting the innovations and technologies transforming different facets of urban life:

  • Political—climate, trade, governance, growth, and security
  • Economic—innovation, technology, energy, infrastructure, production, and finance
  • Social—education and training, art and culture, community, equity, justice, and accessibility
