Kansas City Chiefs’ 2025 NFL season opener ‘announced’ with Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes experiencing a career first

THE Kansas City Chiefs are set to play their first game of the 2025 NFL season in BRAZIL.

It was already announced in February that the Los Angeles Chargers will play as the designated team in a Sao Paulo clash during Week 1 of the regular season.

Now reports from The Athletic claim that the Chiefs are the favourites to be chosen as their opponents for that game - which is set to take place on Friday, September 5.

The game, which will be played at Brazilian soccer team Corinthians' home ground, will be an evening fixture.

It's claimed that both the Chargers and the Chiefs are not opposed to playing out their AFC West bout in Brazil.

Chiefs owner Clark Hunt even opened up on the franchise's open-minded approach to playing abroad on Monday.

He said: "On playing international games, we’re willing to do it whenever the opportunity presents itself.

"We don’t have a lot of control over that, except periodically with whatever the rotation of the league is at where we can be the home team.

“We make the league aware every year that we would be delighted to play [an international game], whether as a home team or as an away team.

"We hope, at some point, we’ll get picked back up.”

A game in Brazil will be a career first for many of the Chiefs stars, including Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

The Athletic also claim that Kansas City are likely to play on Christmas Day for the third year in a row.

That's after reports that the Chiefs have requested to be chosen for one of the festive fixtures.

The Kansas City Chiefs are becoming one of the NFL's most marketable franchises and have a continuously growing global profile - not least thanks to the help of Travis Kelce's relationship with Taylor Swift.

And Clark Hunt is aiming for global domination.

“Well, our goal is to be the world’s team,” he said.

“That starts with being one of the top teams here in the United States.

"It’s a credit to our players, some of the personalities that we have on the team and certainly the success we’ve had the last six years. Our TV ratings have been very high whenever we play.

“We also have some very special fans who help drive those numbers as well.”
