Alexis Sanchez has trained alone at Manchester United's Carrington training ground having been unable to join their US pre-season tour due to issues over his visa.

The Chile ace is the standout omission from Jose Mourinho's travelling party but he looked to be in good spirits as he showed off post workout in the dressing room via his Instagram feed.

Sanchez, who was listening to Akon's 'I'm So Paid' after training, can ill-afford to rest on his laurels while discussions continue to see if he can join the rest of his team-mates with the Premier League opener now just 25 days away.

United bring the curtain up on the 2018-19 Premier League season on Friday, August 10 when they welcome Leicester City to Old Trafford.

Sanchez undertook a double session, one close to midday and one which concluded in the early evening as he looks to find his best form ahead of the new campaign.

Following his January move from Arsenal, the former Gunners star struggled to capture his best form and will want to show a marked improvement in his first full season at United.

While Sanchez was put through his paces by a coach at Carrington, his team-mates got their preparations underway in Los Angeles, having arrived at their base.

Sanchez has been working with his lawyer Ruben Inostroza Povea and United's legal team to resolve the issue, which relates to him accepting a 16-month prison sentence in February for defrauding the Spanish tax authorities of £885,000 during his time as a Barcelona player.

It is hoped that the 29-year-old will be able to obtain a visa waiver in time to join up with the five-match tour, which begins with a game against MLS side Club America in Phoenix in the early hours of Friday morning.

But his absence in the US would be a blow to both United and the organisers of the International Champions Cup, who have set up games for Jose Mourinho's side against AC Milan, Liverpool and Real Madrid.
