Gozo Minister meets Commonwealth Games competitor Marlon AttardThe Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana met with Marlon Attard, who is the first Gozitan to represent Malta at the Commonwealth Games.

Mr Attard, despite his young age of 19, was chosen by the Maltese Olympic Committee to represent the country in skeet shooting at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

During the tour in Australia, Marlon will also compete in the ISSF Junior World Cup which is taking place in Sydney. This is an internationally acclaimed competition.

Dr Caruana, while congratulating Marlon on this honour and opportunity to represent Malta in the international sphere, also reiterated the commitment of the Ministry for Gozo to sports.

She explained the work that has been carried out to improve a number of sports facilities and those planned for the future, such as among others, Ulysses Grove, for which a tender has been issued for a running and cycling track, and also the ongoing negotiations for a swimming pool.

There was also the first edition of the new scheme for sports organisations to obtain funding for their projects, the results of which will be announced shortly, the Minister said.

Minister Caruana also stressed that the Ministry will continue to promote both physical activity among the public, as well as to encourage more people to indulge in some sort of sport on a professional level.

In this regard Marlon Attard is privileged and has a great responsibility, because he will be a role model for all Gozitan youths, concluded Dr Caruana.
