Family sues Florida restaurant, claims daughter was overserved before deadly DUI crash
A family will host a press conference on Thursday in the wake of their daughter's death, who they claim was overserved alcohol at a Collier County restaurant in October.According to a press release, on Oct. 29-30, Señor Tequila Mexican Grill overserved Jona Bejko, who was said to be a former employee and had turned 21 just four days prior.Reports say Bejko was being served Patron tequila, putting her well beyond the point of intoxication. Bejko was apparently permitted to drive away from the restaurant, which is a violation of Florida's Dram Shop Law.Lawyers say it was "visibly clear" that Bejko was intoxicated before she left the restaurant. After leaving, Bejko drove on I-75 for nearly two miles before she crashed into a drainage canal and drowned. Bejko called her mother Harta as the car sunk into the canal.A toxicology report revealed Bejko had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.30%. The legal blood alcohol concentration limit in Florida is 0.08%.The Bejko family is now holding a news conference to remind bar and restaurant staff of their responsibilities when serving alcohol.The family filed a wrongful death "dram shop" lawsuit against the restaurant. Their goal is to help prevent other families from suffering a similar, preventable tragedy.There has been no communication between the family and Señor Tequila at this time, the family says.
